Flights from Bangkok: Best Side of Plane

Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport sits in the flat Chao Phraya delta, about 30 kilometres east of the city. Departures often climb over the Gulf of Thailand or the central plains depending on runway orientation — on a clear day the sprawl of Greater Bangkok, the river meanders, and the glittering rooftops of the Grand Palace complex are visible below before altitude takes over. The southern routes to Phuket and Krabi are among Southeast Asia's most scenic short-haul flights: the Malay Peninsula narrows as you fly south, and on the right side the Andaman Sea appears with its characteristic limestone karst islands rising from turquoise water. The Singapore route threads the full length of the peninsula with jungle ridge lines and coastal mangroves visible below. Each departure heading has a clearly better side for the views that matter most.
